I have always lusted after a UAZ-452, so with the Ruble currently going to hell, wouldn't this be a good time to start looking for one? Anyone know a decent auto classified site there? Anyone reputable so I don't get robbed? I have brought cars over from Europe and it has always been seamless for the most part. Hmmm

lol damn.
It would make sense that is the Ruble has fallen 57% since January, it is probably a good time though, right?
Also I would so much rather have one of these than a syncro vanagon or DoKa. Where the hell are parts for them though?

about what I expected :)

Parts are all over the place, I'd wager. Considering that you can buy them new from dealers in the Mediterranean still...

No no no, these can be had for cheap anyways. Now is the perfect chance to get a ZIL limousine!

yeah, and I guess like with many Soviet vehicles too alot of stuff was designed to be fixed with scraps of other cars.

According to Wiki, it can run on 72 octane gas... that's pretty awful!

I wish I could get into one. I have alot of shady ex-bloc characters in my town I would be trolling hard

holy crap, what is that anyways, mid stack distillate? Would take some very creative timing I would imagine. Lol from wiki "76 was preferred"

So many of those old cars were pretty much straight copies of cars made in the west. i've always wondered if a VW engine swap would be an easy way to get one of those you could drive without worrying about parts made of unobtanium.

We've got quite a few here too, so be careful, they're probably armed, and armed to the point of absurdity.

The Bukhanka is water-cooled, but just about any small straight four-banger could be adapted.

I suspect it's made by combining 86 octane with ram's piss to stretch out limited supplies... maybe with a dash of borscht for a nice rusty hue.

straight up big valve 1.8 from a mk1 GTI

More like a 22R, really. These things are like a ChevyVan more than a VW one.

That body looks pretty heavy, would a 22-R be enough to haul it up a hill at a decent pace?

Well, Toyota pickups are quite heavy, TBH, and they do all right. That, and the original engine in these is just a little over a hundred horsies - kind of a joke. I don't think you want one of these going too fast.

As someone who has actually wrenched on an UAZ before, I hope you have a good source of (lots of) spare parts.

ok this answers a question. Did you wrench on it stateside?
![]() 12/16/2014 at 15:40 |

Yeah, top speed wasn't really just what I would want to do, I just want enough power to get me over a decently steep incline and not stuck having to push it over.

No, while I was visiting some friends on the outskirts of Moscow.
It ran fine, but my friend had a terrible time with the clutch, and the glass was broken out of the face of one of the gauges because the shifter knob came within a cm or two of the gauges in the odd-numbered gears.
